The Geologists also have done various research to know about the existence of the Phoksundo Lake. After doing research they have confirmed that Phoksundo Lake was formed after a huge post-glacial mountain collapse. It is believed to have occurred about 40,000 years ago. The water is collected in the lake and makes one one of the highest waterfalls of Nepal during the overflow from the hill. Made up of blocks of limestone and sediment, the rockslide detached itself from the ridgeline which is situated at an elevation of 5,700 meters above sea level.
