Trip Overview

Nepal is popularly known as one of the richest countries in inland water resources in the world. This tiny Himalayan nation is home to thousands of rivers, rivulets, and tributaries. These free-flowing waters, coming down directly from different mountains reach up to the lowland Terai, creating a perfect setting for white-water rafting adventures.

The rivers of Nepal offer a balanced ratio of water volume and seasonal flow, making them ideal for first-time rafters as well as hardcore adventure seekers. While spring and autumn are the prime seasons for rafting, you can enjoy it nearly year-round depending on the river and your comfort level. The rapids range from Class III to IV, and that’s where fun lies.

This Nepal River Rafting Tour is specially curated for those who want to experience the best of Nepal's rafting adventures. You’ll be paddling through the mighty waters of Bhotekoshi, Trishuli, and Upper Seti, each offering its own set of challenges, scenic wonders, and unforgettable group energy.

Your 10-day journey starts with a cultural and historic sightseeing of Bhaktapur before heading on to Bhotekoshi River. Here, you’ll learn to paddle for the first time with beach games and other fun activities included.

Next, you’ll head to Kurintar for your Trishuli River rafting, which is considered as one of Nepal’s most famous rafting spots. The rapids are friendly yet exciting, perfect for beginners and fun-lovers. After two nights in Kurintar, your trip continues to Pokhara, where you’ll take on the mighty Seti River (upper), completing your white-water rafting trio. It’s going to be two back-to-back runs on the Seti before going for sightseeing in the tourism capital.

Your adventure ends after your return to Kathmandu, where you’ll be going for a half-day sightseeing. We’ve included Swayambhunath Stupa and Boudhanath Stupa, but the places can be customized after you come in contact with us.

Doesn’t it sound exciting already? Well, here’s everything you should know about these adventures before truly hitting the ‘Book Now’ button:

Thrilling Class III-IV White-Water Rafting Experience

Nepal is one of the best places in the world for white-water rafting. And if you’re seeking just the right level of adrenaline, the Class III–IV rafting adventures offered by the rivers here strike the perfect balance between thrill and fun!

Whether it’s the steep drops of Bhotekoshi, the wide flows of Trishuli, or the short yet intense ride through the Upper Seti, each river included in this package offers a unique and unforgettable experience!

These rivers are beginner-friendly, yet still challenging enough to get your heart racing. We’re offering you experienced guides, riverside games, and most importantly, an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life!

In Bhotekoshi

Bhotekoshi River, where the water flows all the way from Tibet, is one of Nepal’s steepest and most action-packed rivers for rafting. This river is a tributary of the mighty Sunkoshi and flows through narrow canyons and rugged hillsides.

Rafting on Bhotekoshi began in the early 1990s, back when adventurers were just beginning to explore this small Himalayan country.

The rafting adventure on Bhotekoshi is rated Class III to IV, which means it's intense yet manageable for beginners. The rapids are continuous and energetic, which remains one of the main reasons why tourists like you absolutely love it!

Even if it’s your first time, the guided training included in this trip ensures you’re fully prepared. And once you're on the raft, it’s all about teamwork, quick reactions, and having loads of fun!

Unlike the typical Bhotekoshi rafting trip that lasts around 4 hours, we’re offering a longer and more immersive experience of about 5 to 6 hours. Your journey starts near Barhabishe and ends in Sukute.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy rest stops on riverside beaches, where our guides often organize fun games like raft flips, tug-of-war with paddles, and swimming challenges.

In Trishuli

Flowing down from the peaks of Langtang, Gosaikunda Lake, and even from Tibet, the Trishuli River has long been one of Nepal’s most accessible and loved rafting destinations.

Named after Lord Shiva’s trident (Trishul), rafting here began decades ago, making it one of the first commercial rafting routes in Nepal.

With Class III to IV rapids, Trishuli is ideal for beginners who are just stepping into the world of white-water adventure. What’s even more fascinating is that many of the rapids here have unique names, like Ladies Delight, Snail’s Nose, Monkey Rapid, and more.

Even when our Altitude Himalaya team went on this journey last time, we kept the fun alive by shouting those names along the way! The rafting here delivers exactly the right amount of thrill. Nothing too risky, just pure fun!

Unlike the usual route from Charaudi, we begin a little higher up at Malekhu, with the journey ending at Kurintar, covering approximately 32 kilometers. This stretch of the Trishuli River takes around 5 to 6 hours, with exciting riverside games included along the way.

In Upper Seti

The Upper Seti River falls from Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and is a hidden gem for those who love white-water rafting. It offers one of the shortest commercial rafting trips in Nepal, making it a perfect fit when you’re in Pokhara.

The river crashes through narrow gorges, delivering continuous and technical Class III to IV rapids from start to finish. It’s the kind of adventure you’ll want to do more than once, which is exactly why we’ve included it twice on the same day!

This rafting experience lasts about 1.5 hours, packed with non-stop waves and drops that will keep your heart racing! The trip begins at Gahatgauda, located about 20 minutes from Lakeside, and ends at Bagmara, with stunning views along the way.

While there’s not much time for beach games on this one, the thrill lies in the intensity of the ride. You and your team will have to work together to navigate fast drops and sharp turns. And of course, the best part is the incredible views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna ranges!

Outdoor Adventures Beyond the River

While rafting is the main highlight of this package, the fun doesn’t just stop at the riverbanks. From riverside relaxation in Kurintar to adrenaline-packed activities in Pokhara, these outdoor adventures add an extra layer of excitement to your journey. Allow us to explain:

Riverside Fun in Kurintar

A day prior to your Trishuli rafting ride, Kurintar becomes the perfect spot for unwinding. Located right beside the Trishuli River, this place offers more than just relaxation. It serves as a mini-playground for riverside fun!

Once you check in to your resort, you can simply spend the day by chilling in the pool. Besides, there are other activities like volleyball, table tennis, carrom, darts, and even snooker.

If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, nearby experiences like ATV rides, a short drive to Serathok viewpoint for a magical sunset, or a farm visit can also be included.

Not to forget that there's a biergarten to stop by during the evening with your group! Just be responsible and don’t drink too much before the rafting day.

Adrenaline-Rushing Adventures in Pokhara

Pokhara city isn’t called the adventure capital of Nepal for no reason! Beyond the mountains and lakes, this city offers some of the most thrilling activities that every adventure lover should try at least once.

So, if you’ve got time to spare after your main trip of rafting in Nepal, these optional experiences can easily be added to your package (with slightly additional cost):

  • Paragliding from Sarangkot with views of Phewa Lake and Machhapuchhre
  • Zip-lining from one of the world’s steepest zip lines
  • Ultralight flights for a bird’s-eye view of the Pokhara Valley
  • Bungee Jumping from a 80-meter tower in Hemja (option to go for Kusma Bungee)
  • Hot air ballooning for a peaceful view of the Annapurna and Machhapuchre range
  • Mountain biking around lakes, hills, and forest trails

Undoubtedly, it’s a perfect blend of cultural heritage and natural scenes. Each stop along makes your Nepal journey truly immersive, and here’s what you can expect:

Bhaktapur: The City of Living Heritage

Before diving into the thrill of rafting, your journey begins with a cultural deep dive into Bhaktapur. It’s known for its unique Newari architecture, centuries-old temples, and living traditions.

Your cultural tour includes stops at all four of Bhaktapur’s iconic squares:

  • Durbar Square: This is the main square that’s filled with palaces, temples, and intricate wood carvings.
  • Taumadhi Square: This is where the Nyatapola Temple is located and is located just east of the Durbar Square.
  • Dattatreya Square: This is located a little further from the main two squares and the main highlight here is the Dattatraya Temple.
  • Pottery Square: This is where you get the hands-on experience of witness as well as trying the traditional pottery-making.

After the thrill of rafting in the Upper Seti River, we make sure that you get to explore the natural beauty and cultural charm of Pokhara. This is the city where lakes, caves, waterfalls, and mountains come together to offer a peaceful yet inspiring travel experience!

It’s a place that you must visit during your time in Nepal. And your sightseeing highlights here include:

  • Devi’s Falls: A waterfall located at the heart of city isn’t just beautiful but has a dark history associated with it. A Swiss lady swimming here got drowned and ever since then, the waterfall has been named after her.
  • Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave: Located right across from Devi’s Falls, this sacred cave houses a Shiva shrine and also offers breathtaking views of the waterfall opposite to it.
  • Pumdikot Shiva Statue: A hilltop destination featuring a towering Shiva statue, along with panoramic views of Pokhara Valley.
  • World Peace Pagoda: This is one of the most popular pilgrimage site among the Buddhist community that features a stupa right on top of one of the hills in Pokhara. The spot offers stunning views of Phewa Lake, Pokhara city, and the Annapurna range.

Seriously, Pokhara's iconic landmarks adds a cherry on top of your adventurous journey.

Kathmandu: The City of Temples

Your adventure ends where most our packages begin. Once you return to Kathmandu, you get to witness the ancient architecture, hustling and bustling alleys, and also spiritual energy of the religious sites. It’s the capital city and it offers a fascinating glimpse into Nepal’s culture and customs.

Since you're already in Nepal, we wouldn’t want you to miss out on its must-visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites. But due to the limit of time, only a guided half-day sightseeing tour is included within this current package that includes two iconic spots:

  • Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple): Located atop of a hill, this ancient stupa offers sweeping views of the city along with deep spiritual resonance for both Buddhists and Hindus.
  • Boudhanath Stupa: One of the largest spherical stupas in the planet, it's a spiritual hub surrounded by prayer wheels, and serves as the best spot for relaxation.

If you’d like to extend your Kathmandu sightseeing to a full-day experience, you can opt to add an extra day. With that, we can include other major landmarks, like Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Narayanhiti Musuem, Patan Durbar Square, etc. Just let us know your preferences in advance, and we’ll take care of the arrangements to ensure your final day in Nepal is as memorable as the rest of your journey.

Tour Guide, Tips

Our team at Altitude Himalaya works hard every day to ensure your family’s trip to Nepal becomes truly memorable. We have always prioritized our guests’ experiences above everything else, and that’s what makes us unique!

Even during this 10-day Nepal River Rafting Tour, you might have many questions before hitting that ‘Request a quote’ or ‘Book Now’ button. To make sure you get all the answers you need, we have created this Trip Guide just for you.

And if any other doubts arise, know that we are available 24/7 to support you. We don’t just help you learn more about the trip, we also assist in customizing your personal itinerary to make your Nepal journey even more immersive.

For now, let’s dive into the must-know details of your Nepal trip:

Best Time to Go River Rafting in Nepal

While rafting is done all year long in Nepal, the best seasons are Autumn (September to December) and Spring/Summer (March to June). This is when the water level is decent, the risk is lower for beginners, and the class category stays around III. It’s a perfect balance of fun and safety!

During the monsoon season (July and August), water levels rise significantly in all three rivers. In fact, there are high chances of flooding too. During this time, rafting is often delayed, or if it does proceed, the high volume of water and strong current push it into a Class IV level. While that’s fun for adventure lovers, it can be a bit more risky for beginners.

What to Pack for Your Rafting Adventure

You can pack clothes and required items based on the season. Don’t forget your medicines, travel insurance, and electrical devices too.

But let’s now focus on what you’ll need for your rafting adventure. Since you’ll be doing three different white-water river rafting trips, we recommend carrying extras. You can also easily shop for them in Kathmandu or Pokhara, so there’s no need to worry much.

Here are the must-have items that you should bring for the rafting adventure (not provided by the operators):

  • Shorts
  • Breathable t-shirts
  • Swimwear (best option)
  • Travel towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle

Remember that the operator will take your photos and videos, so you don’t need to carry your phones or cameras. It’s better to leave them in your hotel room as they might get wet if brought into the raft.

Safety Considerations in River Rafting

During all three of the rafting tours, you’ll be provided with life jackets and helmets as standard safety gear.

But beyond the equipment, it’s equally important that you follow safety measures by heart!

Before the rafting begins, the guide will teach you essential techniques like foot-locking on the raft, how to paddle properly, and other important dos and don’ts. So, listen carefully and follow the instructions.

If you happen to fall into the water, don’t panic. The guide will pull you up, and you’ll also receive basic rescue training to assist others if needed.

Never try to get out of the raft during big rapids. This can be extremely dangerous! Just follow the guide’s commands and, with teamwork, paddle through the rush.

Don’t pull people out of other rafts for fun. While your own group might enjoy the playful energy, not everyone might feel comfortable. Please respect that and keep such games among your own team only.

Also, know that there will be safety crews in separate kayaks following along throughout the trip. So before the adventure even begins, get into a strong and positive mindset.

Believe that you can do it, trust your team, and enjoy the thrill. Just stay alert, follow the rhythm, and you’re in for a safe and unforgettable rafting experience!

Your Accommodations and Food During the 10-Day Trip

Visiting a country and not trying its food would be one of the most disappointing parts of travel. The same applies to Nepal!

Since our team at Altitude Himalaya doesn’t want you to miss out on the local flavors, here’s a list of the best culinary delights you’ll find in this beautiful country:

  • Regular Nepali local items: Rice and lentils with veggies and meat (popularly known as Dal Bhat), Thakali Khana (similar to Dal Bhat but with more variety), Mo:Mo: (not just momos, mind it!), Chowmein and noodles, Roti Tarkari, and more.
  • Newari Food (best to try when in Kathmandu): Samaya Bhaji, Chatamari, Bhutan, Bara, Yomari, Juju Dhau, etc.
  • Tibetan Food: Laphing, Keema Noodles, Tibetan Bread, and more!
  • Beverages: Lassi, Mohi, Bubble Tea, fresh fruit juices, Chiya (tea), soft drinks, smoothies, and milkshakes.

Don’t worry if you prefer to stick to your own diet! You’ll also find a variety of continental meals at cafes and restaurants throughout the major cities you’ll visit. And if you prefer, we can even arrange purely vegan options too.

Regarding accommodation, you’ll spend your night in a popular three-star hotels in Kathmandu, Kurintar, and Pokhara. Even your stay in Bhotekoshi is going to be in a top-rated resort.

Moreover, your sightseeing across Kathmandu and Pokhara will be done in a private tourist vehicle, ensuring complete privacy. However, in some cases (like the safari in Chitwan), You might share the experience with other guests. This can be avoided if you opt for a luxury private booking.

Customization of Your Rafting Adventure

At Altitude Himalaya, we truly believe in experiences over fixed itineraries. Maybe you’re looking to add more locations or extend your days for even more rafting adventures.

In fact, if you're up for traveling longer distances, we can adjust the itinerary to include adrenaline-pumping rafting activities in rivers like Kali Gandaki, Sun Koshi, Karnali, and more.

All you have to do is contact us directly on our WhatsApp number, and we’ll discuss about the adventures there.
