This is the third most popular trekking region after Everest and the Annapurna regions of Nepal. Meanwhile, the total driving distance from Kathmandu to the starting point of the trek is 122 kilometres. Syabrubesi is the starting and ending point of the trek and is about 12 kilometres away from the Dhunche. The highest elevation during our 10 days of Langtang valley trek Itinerary is Kyanjin Ri.
Although being one of the popular trekking trails of Nepal, there are no proper hotels throughout the trekking trails. Instead of that, there are various teahouses and lodges available for the accommodation of the trekkers. Meanwhile, camping is not required for Langtang valley trek. Due to the earthquake of 2015, the Langtang village was wiped off. But as of now, a new Langtang Village is being built about 100 meters above the ruins of the old village. The trek difficulty of the Langtang Village Trek is moderate. Beginners with a normal fitness level can also complete the trek with proper training a few weeks before the trek.
The highest sleeping point of the trek is Kyanjin Gompa situated at an altitude of 4,084 meters above sea level. Langtang valley short trek is located in the Langtang National Park of Nepal. TIMS card and Langtang National Park Permit are mandatory to trek in this part of Nepal. Bordering Tibet, Buddhist culture and religious practices govern the lifestyle of people there. The second best time to travel this route is in February, March, April and May. During these months of the year, there is a minimum chance of rainfall. The beginning of these months marks the beginning of Spring in Nepal. During these months of the year, you can witness the wildflowers blooming in most parts of your trekking trail to Langtang Valley.
The best time to visit Langtang Valley is during the months of October, November and December. During these months of the year, the sky is clear and amazing views of the mountains and valley can be seen. July and August are not so preferable due to the monsoon season. There may be low visibility. The valley accepts the ever-changing climate. The trekking difficulty level is moderate.
Summary of Langtang Valley Trek
Our Langtang valley trek itinerary is of 10 days and an extra day can be added for the purpose of shopping for the trek. Similarly, an extra day can also be used as the sightseeing of the UNESCO World heritage sites inside Kathmandu Valley. The total distance of the Langtang valley trek is about 80 kilometers. On average you will need to walk about 14 kilometers per day to complete the trek.
The trip normally starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. The distance of Syabrubesi is about 122 kilometers and takes about 6 hours to reach from Kathmandu. Dhunche is the headquarters of Rasuwa district and the Gosainkunda Trek starts from here. During the first day of the trek, you will pass through rhododendron and alpine forest to reach Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel lies at an elevation of 2,480 meters above sea level. Before reaching Langtang Village for the overnight stay you will reach Ghoda Tabela situated at an elevation of 3,000 meters. As you move towards Langtang Village you will witness prayers, flags, Chortens, main walls, and watermills.
Kyanjing Gompa is the highest sleeping point of the trek situated at an altitude of 3,830 meters above sea level. Early morning hike will take you to the Kyanjin Ri situated at an altitude of 4,773 meters above sea level. During this day you will return back to Kyanjin Gompa. Langtang valley trek ends at Syabrubesi following the same trail through Lama Hotel.
Kyanjin Ri (4600m) is the highest point of the Langtang valley trek. An early morning walk from Kyanjin Gompa is required to witness the marvelous views of the mountain ranges. From the top of the hill, you can witness the Langtang Lirung Mountain and Langtang Lirung glacier below the peak. Changbu and Yurba mountains can be seen on the right side of the Langtang Lirung.
Yala peak and Tserko Ri can be spotted on the northeast side of the Kyanjin Ri. Similarly, Tsergo Ri can be seen in the southwest. Getting on top of the Kyanjin Ri is not an easy task. About 3-4 hours of the walk is required to reach the top of the hill. It totally depends on the pace of your walk from Kyanjin Gompa. The most important things to carry during the hike to Kyanjin Ri include safe drinking water, sunscreen and a windproof jacket.

Trek to Syabrubesi
At 07:00 AM: After breakfast in the morning, we will drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek. The drive takes around eight hours and passes through rural lowland villages where we can observe the procession of an ordinary day. Scenic views of mountains and stretches of rolling hills also accompany you. Overnight stay at a Syabrubesi.
Trek to Lama Hotel
At 08:00 AM: The trek to Lama Hotel is mostly following the upstream of Langtang River. After crossing a suspension bridge, we pass a stream. The walk continues along with forests of Bamboo, Rhododendron and other alpine trees. It’s an easy walk despite the wavy nature of the trail. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.
Trek to Langtang Valley
At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, we move on through a trail along with dense forests which ascend towards Ghoda Tabela. Views of Langtang Ri and the Langtang Village are magnificent from here. As we move to the Langtang Village, prayer flags, Chortens, mani walls, and water mills welcome us. Overnight stay at a lodge in Langtang Valley.
Trek to Kyanjin Gompa
At 08:00 AM: We will leave the village after breakfast, we move on through high pasture lands where yaks graze. Today’s walk is mostly walking alongside the mani walls and across wooden bridges, high altitude atmosphere can be felt as we reach Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight stay in a Kyanjin Gompa lodge.
Hike to Kyanjin Ri
At 06:00 AM: It’s a day for exploration. A hike to Kyanjin Ri is scheduled in the morning. Incredible landscape views of Langtang range joys the eyes at the elevation. After returning back, we can explore around Kyanjing Gompa which is also the settlement area for Buddhist community people.
Trek to Lama Hotel
At 08:00 AM: We walk past scenic trails to get back to Lama Hotel via Ghoda Tabela. The route is mostly a descent and an easy and pleasant walk. Overnight stay in a Lama Hotel.
Trek to Syabrubesi
At 08:00 AM: Further descending to Syabrubesi, we take the same route through Bamboo. Thick bamboo and rhododendron forests pass along the way. Overnight stay at a Syabrubesi.
Drive to Kathmandu
At. 08:00 AM: On this day you are returning to Kathmandu by drive. You will get shopping time in Kathmandu and we will have a farewell Nepali dinner together.
