The Langtang valley trek is a relatively short trekking trail in Nepal, also one of the 12 national parks in Nepal. This is the third most popular trekking region after Everest and the Annapurna regions of Nepal. What is Langtang Valley Trek?
The Langtang valley trek itinerary is of 10 days and an extra day can be added to shop for the trek and Kathmandu valley exploration. Similarly, an extra day can also be used for sightseeing at the UNESCO World Heritage sites inside Kathmandu Valley. The total distance of the Langtang valley trek is about 80 kilometers. On average you will need to walk about 14 kilometers per day to complete the trek.
The trip normally starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, which is the starting and ending point of the trek. The distance of Syabrubesi is about 122 kilometers and takes about 6 hours to reach from Kathmandu. You may experience the off-the-beat road as well. During the first day of the trek, you will pass through the rhododendron and an alpine forest to reach Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel lies at an elevation of 2,560 meters above sea level. Before reaching Langtang (valley) village for the overnight stay you will reach Ghoda Tabela situated at an elevation of 3,000 meters. As you move towards Langtang village you will witness prayers, flags, Chortens, main walls, and watermills. Kyanjin Gompa is the highest sleeping point of the trek situated at an altitude of 3,830 meters above sea level. An early morning hike will take you to the Kyanjin Ri situated at 4,773 meters above sea level. On this day you will return to Kyanjin Gompa. Langtang valley trek ends at Syabrubesi following the same trail through Lama Hotel. However, if you want to explore yet another vantage point of the Langtang valley trek, that’s Tserko Ri. This hike is totally optional.
Kyanjin Ri [4,773m/15,660 ft]
Kyanjin Ri (4,773m/15,660ft) is the highest point of the Langtang valley trek. An early morning walk from Kyanjin Gompa is required to witness the marvelous views of the mountain ranges. From the top of the hill, you can witness the Langtang Lirung Mountain and Langtang Lirung glacier below the peak. Changbu and Yurba mountains can be seen on the right side of the Langtang Lirung.
Yala peak and Tserko Ri can be spotted on the northeast side of the Kyanjin Ri. Similarly, Tsergo Ri can be seen in the southwest. Getting on top of the Kyanjin Ri is not an easy task. About 3-4 hours of the walk is required to reach the top of the hill. It depends on the pace of your walk from Kyanjin Gompa. The most important things to carry during the hike to Kyanjin Ri include safe drinking water, sunscreen, and a windproof jacket.
Tserko Ri [5,033m/16,513ft]
Tserko Ri (Chergori) also known as Tsergo Ri (5,033m/16,513ft) is the peak located northeast of Baden-Powell peak. Tserko Ri is the ultimate view of the magnificent Langtang valley. It provides you with an outstanding view of numerous snow-capped mountains and the entire valley itself. From this vantage point, you get the panoramic Himalayan view of the Annapurna range, Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal (7,429m), Dorje Lakpa (6,990m), Langtang II (7,227m), Langtang Lirung (7,245m). You can reach Tserko Ri from Kyanjin Gompa within 5 hours and back in 3 hours. One must take a packed lunch and water as there is no accommodation and hotels.

The best time to visit Langtang valley is in October, November, and December. During these months of the year, the sky is clear and amazing views of the mountains and valley can be seen. This time of year is perfect for trekking as you get to see the mountains and the valley view. July and August are not so preferable due to the monsoon season. There may be low visibility and walking in rain is not an ideal idea for trekking. The valley accepts the ever-changing climate. The trekking difficulty level is moderate.

Kathmandu to Syabrubesi.
At. 07:00 AM: After breakfast in the morning, your guide will pick you up from your respective hotel and drive to Syabrubesi (Syaphrubesi), the starting point of the trek. The distance from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi is 147 km which you will cover in 5-6 hours by driving easily. The road after Trishuli is a bit rugged and off the beat. You will pass through rural lowland villages where you can observe the procession of an ordinary day. Scenic views of mountains and stretches of rolling hills also accompany you. Overnight stay at Syabrubesi.
Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
At. 08:00 AM: The trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel marks the beginning of the Langtang Valley Trek in Nepal. This segment of the trek usually takes 5-6 hours, covering a distance of around 10.9 km (6.8 miles).
Starting from Syabrubesi (1,470 meters / 4,823 ft), the trail follows the Langtang Khola (River) and gradually ascends through a series of switchbacks. You will pass through lush forests, suspension bridges, and small villages as you make your way toward Lama Hotel.
As you approach the village of Bamboo (1,960 meters / 6,430 ft), the trail enters a dense forest filled with rhododendrons, oaks, and bamboo. You might even spot some wildlife, such as langur monkeys if you're lucky. Bamboo offers a few teahouses where trekkers can take a break and enjoy refreshments.
Continuing the ascent, you'll settle Rimche (2,400 meters / 7,874 ft), which offers more teahouses and resting spots. From Rimche, it's a short hike to Lama Hotel (2,560m/8,399 ft), where you'll find several lodges and teahouses to rest and spend the night. The trail from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel offers trekkers an opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region and experience the local Tamang culture.
Lama Hotel to Langtang Village.
At. 08:00 AM: The trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village is an exciting part of the Langtang Valley Trek. This section of the trek typically takes 5-6 hours, covering a distance of approximately 14 km (8.7 miles).
Starting from Lama Hotel (2,470 meters / 8,103 ft), the trail continues along the Langtang Khola (river) and gradually ascends through dense forests, crossing several suspension bridges. As you progress, the vegetation becomes sparser, and the valley widens, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
Along the way, you'll pass through the settlements of Gumanechok, Ghodatabela (3,030 meters / 9,941 ft), and Thangshyap (3,140 meters / 10,302 ft), where you can find teahouses for rest and refreshments. These small villages provide glimpses into the local Tamang culture and their traditional lifestyle.
The trail then leads to Langtang Village (3,430 meters / 11,253 ft), the largest settlement in the valley. This picturesque village, consisting of traditional stone houses and surrounded by terraced fields, is nestled between the soaring peaks of the Langtang Himal. Here, you can find various teahouses and lodges to accommodate trekkers, as well as a small monastery and a cheese factory to explore.
Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa
At. 08:00 AM: You will leave the village after breakfast, and you move on through high pasture lands where yaks graze. Walk slowly while acclimatizing and exploring the local cheese factory on the way. Today’s walk you will mostly walk alongside the Mani walls and across wooden bridges. The distance between Langtang valley to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m/12,697 ft) is 5.2 km which you will cover in 2-3 hours. On the way, the high-altitude atmosphere can be felt as you reach Kyanjin Gompa. At. 05:00 AM: It’s a day for exploration. A hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,773m/15,660 ft) is scheduled in the morning. Incredible landscape views of Langtang range joy the eyes at the elevation. It is the trek's highest point from where you get the breathtaking view of Langtang peak along with a spectacular valley view. The distance between Kyanjin Gompa and Kyanjin Ri is just 2.2 km which you can cover in around 3-4 hours. After returning, you can explore Kyanjin Gompa which is also the settlement area for the Buddhist community. You can also visit Tserko Ri (5,033m/16,513 ft) which is the vantage point of the Langtang valley trek. It takes 5 hours to reach the top and 3 hours to get back to the Kyanjin Gompa. Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi
At 08:00 AM: Further descending to Syabrubesi, we take the same route through Bamboo. Thick bamboo and rhododendron forests pass along the way. trek to Lama Hotel mostly follows the Downstream of Langtang Khola (River). The distance from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi (2,380m/7,808 ft) is 11 km which you will cover in around 4-5 hours. It will take less time to reach Syabrubesi as you will descend which is easier than going uphill. Overnight stay at Syabrubesi.
Drive to Kathmandu
At. 08:00 AM: Have breakfast at the teahouse and return to Kathmandu. The distance from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi is 150 km which you will cover in 6-7 hours by driving easily.

However, if you want to go souvenir shopping and treat yourself to a relaxing spa after a week-long trek Thamel is the place for you.
