Trip Overview

Are you already in Nepal and looking for a short yet thrilling wildlife adventure? Then, this 4-day Chitwan luxury package from Altitude Himalaya is exactly what you need!

We’ve partnered with one of the finest 5-star hotels in Meghauli to bring you a luxurious escape that combines high-end comfort with unforgettable wildlife experiences.

You’ll glide across the serene Rapti River and even witness breathtaking sunsets. Moreover, you’ll venture deep into the dense Chitwan jungle and get the chance to spot endangered species in their natural habitat.

All of these aspects in the journey promise to be a standout memory in your travel diary. Here are the activities and experiences included in Altitude Himalaya’s Chitwan Wildlife Safari Luxury Tour:

Set Out on a Thrilling Private Boat Safari

Unlike the typical shared canoe experience in Chitwan, this luxury package from Altitude Himalaya offers you private boating on the Rapti River.

You can sit back and relax as you enjoy the sights and sounds of aquatic birds chirping (some flying just overhead). Besides, you might even catch a glimpse of deer running through the trees, rhinos basking in the sun, and, if lucky, even other wild animals approaching the riverbank for a drink.

Among all these encounters, the true highlight of this journey has to be the Gharial crocodiles soaking up the sun. They’ll be very close to you. So, kindly don’t tease or disturb them.

And if you have any questions, feel free to ask the knowledgeable guide accompanying you. In fact, your guide will be actively pointing out wildlife and sharing hidden insights about Chitwan National Park throughout the safari.

Soak in the Sunset with a Riverfront Sundowner Setup

After gliding peacefully along the Rapti River, you’ll stop at the confluence of the Rapti and Narayani rivers. This is a picturesque spot perfectly suited for the sunset experience.

But that’s not all! Your luxury hotel sets up a live kitchen right on the riverbank, preparing hot snacks and serving them alongside your favorite drinks.

Honestly, this is one of our absolute favorite experiences here at Altitude Himalaya. So, we highly recommend you don’t miss it.

Spot Elusive Wildlife on Jeep Safaris

Jungle Jeep Safari in Chitwan National Park is like stepping into a real-life wildlife documentary. It’s a truly thrilling adventure, where you’ll drive deep into different corners of the national park in search of rare wildlife.

One of the best experiences here is the chance to spot the Royal Bengal Tiger. Without a doubt, sightings of this elusive wildcat are quite rare. So, if you do catch a glimpse, consider yourself very lucky!

But don’t be discouraged if you didn’t spot many animals on the first safari!

Wildlife is most active during the early morning and late afternoon hours. That’s why Altitude Himalaya has arranged two Jungle Jeep Safaris for you.

They are scheduled at different times and cover different regions of the park, so you get the chance of an unforgettable encounter.

Get Closer to Nature with a Walking Safari

For this wildlife adventure in Nepal, you’ll also need to lace up your jungle boots. The next journey takes you deep into the forest on foot.

Accompanied by a professional naturalist, you and your group will walk approximately 5 to 7 kilometers through the wilderness.

This Walking Safari is ideal for birdwatching, offering the freedom to pause anytime and capture as many photos and videos of the region’s diverse flora and fauna as you’d like.

Since you’ll be venturing into the dense forests of Chitwan National Park, it’s natural to have safety concerns. Just trust your experienced guides and follow their instructions carefully.

Since the risk is still there in an active wildlife zone, we advise against bringing young children on this particular adventure.

Connect with Local Life on a Tharu Cultural Walk

During this 4-day wildlife adventure in Nepal, you won’t just explore the dense jungles of Chitwan National Park. The package also takes you to a nearby Tharu village.

It’s going to be a cultural walk, where you'll have the opportunity to learn about the fascinating traditions and practices of the local communities.

While we don’t personally offer Tharu food, we still highly recommend trying it if you get the chance.

In fact, during this cultural walk, many of our previous guests have been warmly welcomed into locals’ homes. That’s simply because it’s a Nepali custom to offer food to our guests.

In addition to interacting with the locals, you’ll also visit a community-run museum nearby. A local guide and translator will accompany you throughout the village tour to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Experience the Energy of Tharu Cultural Performances

To create an even more immersive experience of Tharu culture, your luxury resort organizes special dance programs performed by the Tharu community themselves.

You’ll get to witness their traditional dances like Danda Nach, Ago Nach, Mayur Nach, and more. Don’t hesitate to join in on the dances. It’s a fun and engaging way to connect with the local culture!

Enjoy a Rare Glimpse of Kumal Dances

The Tharus aren’t the only indigenous inhabitants of Chitwan. There’s also the Kumal community, known for their exceptional pottery skills along with a long-standing tradition in the craft.

While the resort features a Tharu cultural performance on the first day, the next day is dedicated to the Kumals. You can look forward to witnessing their traditional dances, such as Pangdure, Ghatu, and Kaura.

Tour Guide, Tips

The luxury trip to Chitwan National Park for an adrenaline-rushing wildlife safari lasts 4 days, but can also be adjusted based on your preferences.

The provided itinerary was curated after carefully considering the hotel’s suggestions, feedback from previous guests, and valuable insights from tour guides and naturalists.

If you wish to spend extra time in Chitwan, that’s even better! In fact, Altitude Himalaya has also designed a 10-day luxury wildlife safari that extends to Bardiya National Park in western Nepal. Make sure to check it out.

Meanwhile, if you're short on time but still eager to try your luck spotting the Royal Bengal Tigers and other endangered species, this Chitwan package is all you need. With that, you probably have a few questions in mind about the trip. Let’s go through them:

Best Time to Do Wildlife Safari in Chitwan

The best time to visit Chitwan National Park is during the Spring and Autumn seasons. These months include March, April, early May, late September, October, and early November.

Even the late winter months, from late January to February, are a great time for wildlife safaris. That’s when villagers cut thatch grasses, making it easier to spot animals.

Outside of these periods, Altitude Himalaya does not recommend taking the luxury tour during the monsoon season (late May to early September) due to poor road conditions and the presence of leeches in the jungle.

Likewise, the peak winter months of December to early January should also be avoided, as the grasses dry out and the landscape loses its greenery.

What Wildlife Can I Expect to See?

Chitwan National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to 50+ species of mammals, 525 bird species, and 55 types of amphibians and reptiles

The park is dominantly covered by sal trees, with patches of grassland that include over 50 varieties of elephant grasses.

The main endangered animals you may spot here include the Royal Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, Gharial and Marsh Mugger crocodiles, golden monitor lizard, python, four-horned antelope, pangolin, and Gaur.

Among the rare bird species found in the region are the black stork, white stork, giant hornbill, Bengal florican, and lesser florican.

Food and Accommodation on This Luxury Trip

Throughout this 4-day Chitwan Wildlife Safari Luxury Tour, the resort you’ll be staying at will provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the moment you arrive. The type of food you’ll be served completely depends on your preference.

While you’re welcome to stick to your comfort food, Altitude Himalaya recommends trying authentic Nepali cuisine during your stay. And don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone to experience Tharu and Kumal delicacies as well!

Additionally, meals can be packed and taken along on your wildlife safaris (except for dinner). You also have the option to enjoy your meals in unique settings, like a riverside lunch, bush dinner, poolside dinner, or even a rangasala dinner (an open-air kitchen with lanterns and a bonfire).

What to Pack For Your Chitwan Wildlife Safari?

Since the weather in Chitwan is mostly hot from Spring to early Autumn and still remains warm from late Autumn through Winter, it’s best to wear lightweight and breathable clothing when visiting the national park.

Besides clothing, make sure you don’t forget to pack these essential items for your wildlife safari tour:

  • Clothes: Lightweight, breathable, neutral colors, long-sleeve for protection from sun and insects, camouflage/dark-colored, Hat/Cap, Sunglasses,
  • Footwear: Sturdy walking shoes / hiking boots (for jungle walking), flip-flops
