Want to learn in-depth what you’ll do on your Nepal vacation? Go through the following to clear your doubts:
Religious Sites You’ll Visit on This Trip
A religiously diverse country, Nepal is predominantly Hindu, followed by a significant Buddhist population. In fact, during your visit to Nepal, you’ll witness countless temples and stupas scattered across.
What’s likely to amaze you is the peaceful co-existence of Hinduism and Buddhism. Despite being distinct religions, every sacred site in Nepal reflects perspectives from both, and that’s exactly what makes the country so unique and special.
Don’t get us wrong if we seem to focus more on Hindu and Buddhist traditions. It’s simply because most major tourist attractions in Nepal are rooted in these religions.
That said, all religions are equally respected here. In fact, Nepalese people joyfully celebrate each other’s festivals as if they were their own.
Now, here are the religious sites you’ll be exploring during your 10-day Nepal tour:
Explore Nepal’s Holiest Hindu Shrine: Pashupatinath Temple
It’s estimated that Nepal is home to over 30,000 Hindu temples, each dedicated to different gods and goddesses. Among them, the Pashupatinath Temple (dedicated to Lord Mahadev) holds the top spot.
There are countless mythological stories associated with this sacred site, but before you visit, here are the two important points to keep in mind:
- It’s an incredibly holy site located in Kathmandu, housing a revered Shiva Lingam. Worshipping here is believed to bring spiritual purification and ultimate liberation.
- Located right beside the holy Bagmati River, it’s believed that cremation rites performed here lead to freedom from the cycle of reincarnation.
While non-Hindus are not permitted to enter the inner temple premises, you can still witness the spiritual atmosphere and religious activities from the viewpoint on the eastern side.
Spin Prayer Wheels at Boudhanath Stupa
Similarly, for Buddhists, the Boudhanath Stupa is considered a gateway to heaven. Circumambulating the stupa with a pure heart is believed to lead to enlightenment, offering a path to escape the cycle of rebirth.
Many also believe that the stupa houses sacred relics of both Kashyapa and Gautama Buddha. That’s one reason why so many Tibetan Buddhists come here to seek blessings.
Whether you’re a Buddhist or not, there’s no restriction on doing the traditional kora walk or spinning the prayer wheels.
Moreover, the surrounding area is lined with charming little shops where you can buy Thangka paintings, singing bowls, and other traditional Nepali handicrafts.
Discover Nepal’s Monkey Temple: Swayambhunath Stupa
Yet another holy site located right in Kathmandu is the Swayambhunath Stupa. It is believed to have emerged spontaneously from a lotus seed when the Kathmandu Valley was still forming.
Even the monkeys you’ll encounter on this hilltop are considered sacred. According to legend, they were once lice on Manjushree’s head that eventually came to inhabit the area. Thanks to them, today this stupa is also known as ‘Monkey Temple’.
While you’re here, don’t miss out on visiting Amideva Buddha Park, World Peace Pond, Harati Temple, Anantapur Temple, and Pratappur Temple. You see, this is another spot that reflects the co-existence of Hindu temples with the Buddhist stupa.
Uncover Spiritual Depths of Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave
Another sacred site dedicated to Lord Mahadev in Nepal is Pokhara’s Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, home to a self-formed Shiva Lingam. The cave has two sections and features statues of Lord Ganesha and Mata Parbati as well.
The first section of the cave is easily accessible throughout the year, while the second section is a bit more challenging to reach. In fact, during the monsoon season, it’s completely closed!
Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave also offers a rare glimpse of Devi’s Falls as it flows right through the cave. This stunning natural spectacle is what makes this spot a must-visit when you’re in Pokhara.
Admire Sacred Energy of Pumdikot Shiva Statue
Another landmark dedicated to Lord Shiva in Pokhara is the recently built 51-foot Shiva statue (with the entire structure measuring around 108 meters).
This statue has become one of the most popular destinations for Hindus, so you’re likely to encounter quite a crowd here. You’ll also find other statues of Nandi and Lord Ganesha (that’s circling the main statue of Lord Shiva).
Aside from the religious significance of the Pumdikot Shiva Statue, the site also serves as a stunning viewpoint of the Pokhara Valley and the picturesque Phewa Lake. Reportedly, the location will soon feature a model of Mount Sumeru, showcasing Shiva and Parvati.
Stand in Silence at Pokhara’s World Peace Stupa
As the name suggests, the World Peace Stupa, located on Anadu Hill, symbolizes peace and serenity. Nestled at the top of Pokhara, it offers panoramic views of the entire valley: both the city and the lake.
Built by Japanese monks, the World Peace Stupa has become a revered holy site for Buddhist pilgrims. Many of our prior guests have shared that they experience a profound sense of peace after visiting this spot.
In addition to its religious significance and breathtaking views, the stupa is also a popular spot for meditation and yoga.
While you can reach the site by road, it’s also possible to hike from Phewa Lake (or, as included in this package, you can drive there and return by hike).
Cultural & Historical Immersions on This Trip
When talking about Nepal, the conversation often ends with discussions about mountains and treks. However, this South Asian country is also equally rich in culture and history.
Altitude Himalaya’s Nepal Luxury Package ensures that you get an up-close glimpse of the Durbar Squares, meet people from various ethnic groups, pass through indigenous communities, and even participate in traditional cultural programs.
Step Back in Time at Kathmandu Durbar Square
Kathmandu Durbar Square once served as the royal palace complex for Kathmandu’s Lichhavi and Malla kings, and later for the entire Shah kings of Nepal. A visit here offers a fascinating glimpse into the lifestyle of the kings from centuries past.
The complex is home to several palaces, courtyards, and over 50 temples. It is actually divided into two sections.
The outer area features Kasthamandap Temple, Kumari Ghar, and Shiva-Parvati Temple. On the other hand, the inner section houses the main Hanuman Dhoka Palace, part of which is now a museum.
In addition, don’t miss visiting Taleju Temple, Jagannath Temple, Nasal Chowk, Narsingha Chowk, and Kal Bhairav. And make sure to explore the vibrant Basantpur and New Road areas.
In fact, on your final day in Kathmandu, we may even drop you off at Indrachowk and Ason (only if you prefer), where you can enjoy a traditional Nepali-style shopping experience.
Explore Architectural Wonders of Patan Durbar Square
Just like Kathmandu, the district of Lalitpur boasts its own Patan Durbar Square, which once served as the royal palace for the past rulers of this kingdom. From the rich history of the Malla kings to the numerous temples within the premises, this is a must-visit spot.
You’ll gain an insightful glimpse into Newari culture, including their customs and traditional arts. From intricate wood carvings and metalwork to stone sculptures and sacred arts, Patan has everything a culture lover could wish for.
While you’re here, don’t miss visiting the Golden Temple, Krishna Temple, Kumbeshwar Temple, Keshav Narayan Chowk, Mulchowk, Sundari Chowk, and Bagalamukhi Temple.
Wander Through Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Another Durbar Square in the Kathmandu Valley is located in Bhaktapur, the third district, which was once the ‘Kingdom of Bhadgaon’. Among the three, this is Altitude Himalaya’s favorite, as it’s not only the largest but also transports you to a different era when you visit.
The major attractions in here include the popular 55-Window Palace, The National Art Museum, The Golden Gate, Taleju Temple, Siddhi Laxmi Temple, Naga Pokhari, Pottery Square, and Nyatapol Temple. Be sure to visit each of these remarkable sites when you’re in Bhaktapur.
And the best part about Bhaktapur Durbar Square? The ‘juju dhau’, also known as the "king of curd." It’s thick, sweet, and an absolute must-try delicacy!
Walk Through Chitwan’s Tharu Village
In addition to Nepal’s rich history, this Nepal Luxury Tour Package takes you to an indigenous Tharu community, offering a unique insight into their culture and lifestyle. This will be a much different experience compared to visiting those royal palaces.
You’ll even have the opportunity to visit the community-run museum to learn about their entire history. Altitude Himalaya also ensures that you’ll get to immerse yourself in the local community, experiencing their day-to-day life and traditional practices.
While this package doesn’t include Tharu food and delicacies, you can certainly step out of your comfort zone and try some of their traditional dishes.
Immerse Yourself in Tharu and Kumal Culture
What’s even more exciting about the Chitwan tour is that the luxury resort will organize two cultural programs on different days.
On the first day, you’ll have the chance to watch cultural dances performed by the Tharu community, including Danda Nach (Stick Dance), Ago Nach (Fire Dance), and Mayur Nach (Peacock Dance).
The next day, another Terai community, the Kumal, will present a show of a lifetime with their traditional Pangdure dance. This dance is now considered endangered, so it’s something you won’t want to miss.
A Cultural Feast and Performance in Kathmandu
After completing your entire Nepal trip, Altitude Himalaya will take you to a Nepali cultural program in Thamel, followed by a farewell dinner. This performance offers insight into the various ethnic groups of Nepal, showcasing their traditional dresses, dances, and more!
Some of the highlights include the Lakhe dance, Maithili dance, and Newari dance, along with folk music and other cultural performances. We won’t spoil everything here…you’ll have to come to Nepal to experience it for yourself!
Once the farewell program concludes, you’ll have the option to explore the Thamel area. Here, you can visit the top clubs/bars in Nepal and experience a different side of the country’s vibrant lifestyle. You can also explore Pokhara’s Lakeside too, which offers a similar late-night atmosphere.
Explore Nepal’s Most Scenic Natural Attractions
While this tour doesn’t take you to the base camp of the tallest mountains in Nepal, Altitude Himalaya still ensures that you get the best possible views of the Himalayas.
Even though you might be a bit distant, seeing the mountains look so close is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And let’s not forget that these locations will offer some of the most stunning sunrise and sunset views you’ll ever witness.
In addition, you’ll be treated to glimpses of other breathtaking natural attractions, including Phewa Lake, Devi’s Falls, Rapti River, Narayani River, and Chitwan National Park.
Catch Majestic Mountain Views in Nagarkot
A little further away from the bustling Kathmandu Valley is the serene spot of Nagarkot, which serves as the perfect weekend getaway for even the local residents.
Here, you’ll be blessed with stunning mountain views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu, Jugal, Rolwaling, Numbur, and several other peaks.
In addition to the natural beauty, your luxury stay will be a highlight of your time in Nagarkot. You’ll get to spend quality time with your travel companions, enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
There are also smaller attractions that you can request the resort to take you to, including Bojinee Dam, Geodetic Survey Viewtower, Buddha Peace Park, and nearby waterfalls.
Capture the Beauty of Sarangot’s Sunrise
When you’re in Pokhara, your luxury stay will be on the hilltop of Sarangkot. This means your early mornings and late afternoons will offer the most spectacular views of the mountains as well as the entire valley.
The highlight of this stay is undoubtedly the sunrise, which is considered one of the best in Nepal. You’ll be driven to the nearby view tower, where you’ll witness the first rays of sunlight striking the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountains, turning them a glorious shade of gold.
Experience the Wonder of Devi’s Falls
This Nepal trip also takes you to a fascinating waterfall that mysteriously goes underground and disappears. It’s only known that the water eventually joins the Phusre Khola.
During the monsoon season, the volume of water increases significantly and becomes a truly picturesque spot. However, you must be extremely cautious when approaching it. You definitely don’t want to fall in and end up becoming part of its story.
We’re not joking about this. On July 31, 1961, a Swiss lady named Davi tragically fell into this waterfall. While it’s originally known as Patale Chango, it has now been popularly renamed Devi’s Falls in her memory.
Adventures & Activities in This 10-Day Tour
Nepal’s diverse geography, dramatic landscapes, stunning valleys, and vibrant jungles make it one of the best countries for adventure. From short hikes and long treks to bungee jumps and skydiving, our nation has it all.
However, for this short 10-day Nepal tour, it’s not possible to include every activity. Still, after carefully listening to feedback from our previous guests, we’ve thoughtfully included the following adventures in this luxury tour:
Paddle Through the Scenic Waters of Phewa Lake
If you’re visiting Pokhara, you simply can’t miss Phewa Lake. It’s the city’s main attraction.
To fully immerse yourself in one of the most famous lakes in Nepal, you’ll want to get out on the water. Row boating is one of the traditional ways to explore the lake, and we’ll be using this method to pick you up after your hike from the World Peace Stupa.
What’s trending now are kayaks and SUPs (stand-up paddleboards). So, this updated Nepal tour package ensures you’ll have a great time kayaking on the peaceful waters of Phewa Lake.
And don’t forget the Tal Barahi Temple, located on an island right in the middle of the lake. It’s definitely worth a visit for a cultural and religious experience. But if that’s not your thing, you can always enjoy a peaceful tour of the lake instead.
Unwind with Private Boat Safari in Rapti River
When you arrive in Chitwan, your first adventure is a peaceful glide along the Rapti River in a private boat. This luxury canoeing experience offers you a rare chance to spot endangered Gharials and Marsh crocodiles in their natural habitat.
In addition, the two-to three-hour safari ride provides opportunities to observe a variety of birds and animals as they come to the river to drink water.
You’ll be accompanied by a professional guide, who will enrich your experience by explaining the wildlife behavior and activities throughout the journey.
Savor a Luxury Sundowner in Chitwan
Once the boat safari adventure is over, your luxury resort treats you to one of the most memorable sundowners of your life.
While seated on the sandy beach at the convergence of the Rapti and Narayani Rivers, you’ll enjoy your favorite drinks along with hot snacks freshly prepared right next to you!
The sunset from the riverbank is absolutely stunning, with the sky painted in vibrant hues as you watch locals canoeing silently across the gentle waters.
Go Off the Beaten Path with a Private Jungle Jeep Safari
Another major highlight of this luxury trip is the jungle jeep safari, which takes you deep into the dense sal forests of Chitwan National Park. This thrilling adventure introduces you to a rich variety of flora and fauna.
Most importantly, you’ll have the chance to witness some of the park’s endangered species, including the One-Horned Rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Asian Wild Elephants, Wild Boars, and more.
Embrace Jungle Walks and Birdwatching
Along with exploring the Chitwan jungles by jeep, Altitude Himalaya ensures that you also get to step into the national park on foot. This definitely increases your chances of spotting more birds and animals, and even allows you to inspect the native plant life up close.
For safety, you’ll be accompanied by both a naturalist and a local nature guide. This will be a group walk, unlike the private jeep safari. That said, don’t forget to bring your binoculars and wear proper jungle boots.
