Trip Overview
Everest base camp trek is one of the most popular trekking trails of Nepal. With our short Everest base camp trek, you will pass through the rural villages of the Khumbu region of Nepal. The short trek can be completed in 10 days starting from Kathmandu and ending at the same point. The highest point of the short Everest base camp is Kalapatthar which lies at an elevation of 5,545 meters above sea level. Because of such a high altitude there is a high chance of getting altitude sickness. This moderate level of trek can be done by all age groups, but regular exercise a few weeks before the trek is necessary to complete the trek successfully.
During the everest base camp trek you can also experience the warm hospitality of the local sherpas. Because of being inside the Sagarmatha National Park of Nepal you will need a Sagarmatha National Park permit to reach the Everest base camp. Similarly, you will also need a Khumbu Pasang Lahamu rural permit. The trek starts from Lukla and ends at the same point. The total distance that you will cover during the short everest base camp trek is about 130 kilometers. Meanwhile you will have to walk 6/7 hours per day inorder to complete the trek on time.
It is one of the best trekking route of Nepal starts after a flight to Lukla. You will take an early morning flight to Lukla from Tribhuvan Airport. During the 35-40 minutes of flight to Lukla you can have amazing views of the high mountain ranges, valleys and rural villages. Not to be afraid while landing, but Lukla is one of the most dangerous airports of Nepal as well as around the globe. About Short Everest Base Camp Trek
Upon reaching Lukla airport you will meet the rest of your team and start moving. The first day of the trek is a 6 hours walk. Where you will stay overnight at Monjo village. You can also change the itinerary and choose to stay overnight at Phakding before the trek starts. The second day of the trek will take you to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. You can meet and interact with the hikers moving towards or coming from the trekking trails of the Everest region.
Similarly, walking through the rural villages you will pass through Tengboche, Pangboche, Lobuche and many other sherpa villages to finally reach Gorak Shep. Upon reaching Gorak Shep you will check in the hotel and leave your backpack at the hotel to explore the Everest Base Camp. Base camp of mount everest lies at an elevation of 5,364 meters above sea level. The hiking distance from Gorak Shep to base camp is about 3. 5 kilometers. After spending a few times at the Everest base camp you will return back to Gorak Shep for the overnight stay.
The next day wake up early to witness the marvelous sunrise views over the high mountain ranges from Kala Patthar. Kalapatthar is the highest point of the short Everest base camp trek. You will again leave your backpack at the hotel and move towards the Kala Patthar early in the morning. The distance from Gorak Shep to Kalapatthar is 1.2 kilometers only, but you will have to walk steep uphill to reach this point. You will return back the same route and follow the same path to reach Lukla. You will take an early morning flight to reach Kathmandu.
Trek Difficulty
The most beautiful view comes from the hardest climb. You will have to bear some pain to get the marvelous views of some of the highest peaks of the world. There are various trekking trails in Nepal as well as inside the Everest region. But among all, short Everest base camp trek is one of the moderate difficulty levels of trek.
Any age group of hikers can complete the short Everest base camp trek. But the hikers must be physically fit and must have some hiking experience before the trek. Besides that, regular exercise a few weeks before the trek is a must. Due to the high altitude there is a high chance of getting altitude sickness. Best Time to Visit
This trek can be done best during the spring and autumn season in Nepal. March, April and May are seen as the spring season in Nepal. Marvelous views of the mountain ranges can be seen during these months of the year.

Above all you can also witness the blooming rhododendron flowers all over the forest in the lower parts of the trekking trails.
