    Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Kuri, Hike to Kalinchowk

    A scenic drive from Kathmandu via Bhaktapur, Kavre and Charikot will take you to Kuri village and Kalinchowk. Kalinchowk is about 150 Km from Kathmandu and takes around 5 hours of drive to reach there.

    After reaching Kalinchowk, you can hike up the hill, or just take the cable car to reach the hilltop. You can enjoy the snowfall in winter and visit the temple. After exploring the hilltop, you will get back to the Kuri village for overnight stay.

    During wintertime, because of frosty weather, it gets difficult to start the vehicle at the Kalinchowk, so driving down in the evening eases the drive for early starters. So, getting back to Kuri village after enjoying the Kalinchowk hill, is the best option to return early in the morning. However, if you want to stay in Kalinchowk, it’s also a possible option.

    Day 2: Drive from Kuri to Kathmandu

    The next day, you can return from Kuri to Kathmandu. On the way, you will visit Bhimeshwar temple, and can do rafting in Bhotekoshi river. A drive from Kuri will take you back to the Kathmandu valley.

    This 3 days Kalinchowk trip gives enough time to explore around Kalinchowk and Charikot. Visitors can explore Dolakha Bhimsen temple during the 3 days of trip. A brief itinerary is here:

    Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Kalinchowk

    Early in the morning, you will start your drive to Kalinchowk. Kalinchowk is situated approximately 150 km away from Kathmandu valley and takes around 5 hours of drive to reach there. Upon reaching, you will hike up to the hill or use the cable car ride to get there. Enjoy the panoramic Himalayan views, the temple and snowfall in winter. After exploring you will return downhill. Overnight stay in Kalinchowk.

    Day 2: Trek from Kuri to Charikot

    After exploring the beautiful Kalinchowk, you will start trekking to Charikot. Charikot is a small town in Dolakha district. The trek offers a wonderful experience. The lush greenery, mountain views, sunrise views, flora and fauna are an incredible part of the trek. It takes around 5-6 hours of trekking to reach Charikot from Kuri. Stay in Charikot.

    Day 3: Drive to Kathmandu

    From Charikot, a drive will take you back to the Kathmandu valley. It takes around 4-5 hours to drive to reach Kathmandu.

It is believed that in the morning time, this temple resembles the deity Bhimeshwar, during day Lord Mahadeva and in the evening Narayana. It is also said that the temple signals to any bad fortune before it takes place.

    To reach Kalinchowk from Kathmandu, the route goes through Kathmandu-Bhaktapur-Dhulikhel-Sindhupalchowk-Charikot-Kuri. This is a convenient option to reach Kalinchowk. It takes around 5-6 hours of drive from Kathmandu to reach Kalinchowk and is approx. 150 km away from Kathmandu.  

    The half road segment is good and blacktopped, however, the roads towards Charikot and Kuri are bumpy and rough. So, expecting a smooth drive might not be a good possibility. 

    Vehicle Options

    Kalinchowk is accessible. The only situation is the road segment is not completely good. Some parts of the road to Kuri are bumpy and under construction. However, the rough and tough drive takes you to an amazing destination to Kuri, and that’s the best part. Driving a car all the way to Kalinchowk can be difficult, however, a 4WD Jeep and Bus can drive to Kalinchowk. If you are a biker, Biking is also a good way to explore this beautiful place.

    Best time to visit Kalinchowk

    Kalinchowk is a year-round visitable destination. However, the spring, Autumn and Winter seasons are the best seasons to visit Kalinchowk. If you want to trek in this area, Spring and Autumn offer the best adventure and incredible views. However, if you want to enjoy the snowfall, the months of December, January and February are favourable.

    The best time to visit Kalinchowk is during the months of September until December and February until May. These months are favourable in terms of weather and climate. If you want to visit Kalinchowk for snowfall and Ski activities, the winter months January and February are best, however, for trekking and pilgrimage activities, other months are suitable.
